WE CELEBRATE EVERY MARCH THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE VICTORY AT GALLIPOLI, ONE OF THE TURNING POINT OF 20th CENTURY
But what makes it the stuff of legend is the rare heroism and self sacrifice demonsrated by the Turkish people. From private to commissioned officer to high commander, everyone joined together with one heart to defend Istanbul and the fatherland.
The naval battle that ensued on March 18, 1915, decided the fate of Gallipoli. Tens of thousands of soldiers from as far afield as France, India, Australia and New Zealand came and fought in the battle. Their memory lives on today in ceremonies to commemorate the importanceof peace and friendship.
